I am currently very annoyed at myself. I get really good ideas for blogs at very inconvenient times and/or places, give myself firm mental notes to remember these thoughts for later.... and then forget them. I suppose today I could blame Daylight Savings Time and the loss of an hour of sleep, but I think we both know that's not a valid and complete explanation. Oh well, here goes nothing. I love going through the season of Lent. It always challenges me spiritually and there is usually some … [Read more...] about Mental Clutter
Reasons and Fate
If you live in Illinois like I do, then you have no doubt heard about the shooting at Northern Illinois University last week. I wish I understood what went through the minds of these killers as they entered schools armed to the teeth and prepared to kill. I pray for those who died and their families, victims of yet another senseless tragedy. I cannot understand why those things happen. Joseph
The gospel for yesterday was Joseph's encounter with an angel of the Lord, after hearing that his betrothed Mary was with child. At that moment, Joseph held the life of Jesus in his hands. I had a similar revelation last year when I remembered the words "Gabriel waited." This time I was asked to consider Joseph's role in the birth of Christ. According to Jewish law, Joseph was betrayed and humiliated, and had it in his power to have Mary stoned to death. No Mary, no child, no Savior. But … [Read more...] about Joseph
More To Ponder
This evening has given me yet a few more opportunities for reflection, mostly on myself and the attitudes I have that I am seeking to change. Fortunately, this evening's opportunities were largely positive, for which I am exceedingly grateful. I was on MySpace earlier filling out a survey (yes, another!!) about Christmas. The last question was about what bothers me about this time of year. My friend Gabi had mentioned commercialism, which is definitely a serious bother of mine, especially … [Read more...] about More To Ponder
