This week's sermon at my church was about transformation of the spirit; the example given was of Ebeneezer Scrooge and his reformation from a miserly life to one of generosity. The idea, of course, was that we should continually seek reconciliation to God, and away from the sins we commit in life. Which got me to wondering.... Just why does God want to reconcile us to Himself, anyway? There certainly can't be much in it for Him. Sure, He loves us. He created us. But I have loved people … [Read more...] about Reconciliation
I Don’t Know What’s More Terrifying….
...the idea that I could easily have driven next to such a beautiful sunrise for thirty minutes and never even noticed it; ...or the fact that I took this picture with my cell phone while driving 70 mph down the interstate! … [Read more...] about I Don’t Know What’s More Terrifying….
Perceptions of Love
I'm sitting at home, enjoying a very rare moment of nearly perfect peace and quiet, and thinking about love. It never ceases to amaze me how many forms love can take, how many meanings can come from four little letters. Love can ignite passion, desire, lust, and more. Love can make a person do, feel, say anything just to keep it. And losing love can tear you apart inside and make you feel utterly worthless. Love itself is perfect. We as humans are not. How we as imperfect people have been … [Read more...] about Perceptions of Love
Regressing, or Progressing?
While cruising around MySpace today I took a peek at the featured book, which was Eclipse by Stephanie Meyer. The first thing I noticed was that the "leading man" so to speak was...well...a vampire. Sort of smacked of Anne Rice a bit, so I looked further. Turns out he's also a teenager, and so is the object of his affection, and so this means it's set in a high school. For goodness' sake, I read to *escape* high school drama since I get plenty of it at work. (Especially today, geez....) … [Read more...] about Regressing, or Progressing?
Just Being Me
In a continued effort to ignore the seemingly-endless (though dwindling!) stream of moving boxes, I have spent quite a bit of today lost in my own thoughts and plans. It's relaxing in a way, and I realize fully that in another month or so I will have considerably less time for such luxurious pursuits. While I was on the self-awareness kick, I did a bit of research on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. If you've spent any time on my profile, you've no doubt noticed that I am an INFJ. I have been … [Read more...] about Just Being Me
Harmonic Convergence of the Third Kind
One of my very favorite movies of all time is Amadeus, starring Tom Hulce as Mozart. The movie, as well as the play on which it's based, shattered common misconceptions about Mozart and painted him in a much different light. Hulce gave a fantastic performance, and the story itself was very well-written. Of course, it probably helps that I love Mozart's music; the ending scene where he is dictating strains of the Requiem on his deathbed--every layer fully complete, as he hears them in his … [Read more...] about Harmonic Convergence of the Third Kind
