I came to the blog today hoping to sketch out a bit of musing about an interesting Romanian film I saw last night at the Art, but on my morning meanderings I stumbled onto a friend’s blog and read an absolutely fantastic review of Baz Luhrmann’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby. Now I’ll admit, I haven’t seen this yet, mostly because with the last couple of Luhrmann films I saw, I had to take a couple of runs at them before I could actually sit through and enjoy them. Okay, okay, I didn’t ever actually finish his Romeo + Juliet. I did end up liking Moulin Rouge, though — happy? I mean, it’s Ewan McGregor. Come on.
Anyway…. I kind of think my friend Maddie may have saved me from that first pseudo-painful viewing of Gatsby. You know, the one where you have to remind yourself that this is what a Luhrmann movie looks like and feels like and sounds like. You remember, you get over it, and then you’re back on track. (Or is that just me?)
I’m probably still going to wait until the Blu-ray comes out, just in case. But if you haven’t seen Gatsby yet and you’re wondering if you should, do yourself a favor and read this review. I think you’ll have a more enjoyable movie-going experience afterward. I plan to.
