It’s About Time

September 17, 2017 By lisa

It's almost embarrassing how long it's been since I've posted on this blog. It's not that I haven't watched many movies, although I've seen fewer than I'd like. Mostly, I've simply found that I didn't have much to say about the movies I have watched--nothing beyond a simple tweet or two. That changed recently, starting this past Mother's Day when my oldest son gave me a copy of Stephen King's 11/22/63. He'd kept the receipt because he knew that it was likely that this book was already a part of … [Read more...] about It’s About Time

Miss The Raven? Nevermore!

April 23, 2013 By lisa

Months ago, I was lamenting the fact that I had somehow missed John Cusack as Edgar Allan Poe in The Raven, due to its seemingly short stay in the theaters. This past weekend, I finally remedied that. If you've read my blog before, you may remember that in lieu of the latest Cusack film, I spent some time watching another Poe-centric film, The Black Cat. The feel of that movie was, I think, what viewers were hoping to see in The Raven, although sadly, that's not what we got at all. The Black … [Read more...] about Miss The Raven? Nevermore!

My Review of Stephen King’s FULL DARK, NO STARS

February 11, 2013 By lisa

Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King My rating: 4 of 5 stars Can't help but enjoy S. King's writings. For the first time, though, I have been made to feel uncomfortable, uneasy, in a completely unique way. These stories were dark in a different way than King's usual writings--more personal, and therefore more visceral. Do read, but be aware, when the title says "Full Dark", it really is fully and completely dark. View all my reviews … [Read more...] about My Review of Stephen King’s FULL DARK, NO STARS

Hearts in Atlantis

March 25, 2010 By lisa

Repost of a rather brief review of a movie I've wanted/not wanted to watch for some time. This was originally posted on my Flixster account, which I suppose could partially account for its brevity. Also, I find if I'm not interested in a movie too much, I'm apparently not interested in discussing it much! ==================================================== It really pains me to give a low rating to a film starring Anthony Hopkins, but with Hearts in Atlantis, I'm afraid I must. As a constant … [Read more...] about Hearts in Atlantis

John Cusack in a Hotel with Stephen King

February 22, 2010 By lisa

[Republished from an ancient blog, long abandoned and forgotten, originally posted on June 23, 2007.] I have just had the scariest, most gut-wrenching movie experience I've had since, oh, I can't remember when.  Maybe never. 1408 opened today, and I happened to stumble across a trailer for it online just this evening.  Apparently the movie is based on a Stephen King short story of the same name, published in the collection "Everything's Eventual."  The crazy thing is, I have this book.  I … [Read more...] about John Cusack in a Hotel with Stephen King
