Next Stop: River City

May 18, 2022 By lisa

I'm still pinching myself, but I'm really trying to accept the fact that my husband and I actually bought tickets to see our first-ever Broadway show this fall. As soon as we heard about Hugh Jackman and the revival of The Music Man, we knew we wanted to see it. And in a few months, we actually will. The Music Man holds such a special place in my heart, as it does for so many people, for so many reasons. For me, it was the first show I ever performed in. It was at the Engle Lane Theatre in … [Read more...] about Next Stop: River City

Micro Post #1

April 26, 2022 By lisa

If I’m being honest with myself, I will admit that I have come back to this blog mostly because I have come to hate most social media outlets, but I have not broken myself of the habit of sharing random thoughts that hit my brain now and then. That said, I have finally started watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu, and it is positively delightful. That is all. … [Read more...] about Micro Post #1

Crashed Into Something Good

April 26, 2022 By lisa

If you know me, you know that I'm a wee bit obsessed with visual media -- film and television in particular. Maybe it's because I struggle with visualizing in my mind. I can do it, like when I'm reading a book. But I find myself immensely relieved when I can enjoy a movie based on that book, because I am shown far more than I ever "saw" before. Also, I just love how all of the pieces come together. The words of the story combine with just the right view from the camera plus music and motion, and … [Read more...] about Crashed Into Something Good

Her story, and her surprising role in history, will make you rethink a tale you thought you already knew. Code For Kindness

September 2, 2016 By lisa

In case you didn't know, all the pictures from my blog posts for this month come from my recent Pecha Kucha talk about Random Acts and why kindness matters. Because I'm shameless, I'm going to remind you that you can watch said talk right here. (Thanks again, PK!) A little over a year ago, I had an idea of something I could do to help support this new organization I had kind of fallen in love with. I had done a couple of "acts" already, and was talking to folks about possibly joining the … [Read more...] about Code For Kindness

Every Step Matters

September 1, 2016 By lisa

I'll admit, I kind of admire runners. Like, running isn't my thing. Never has been, never will be. But I have an number of friends who regularly run 5Ks, half marathons, and full marathons. Some run for various charities, some run just for fun. At least, I think some people find it fun.... (I kid!) Recently, my church has taken a more active role in the life of the outside community. Sure, we support homeless shelters and deliver food to needy families, and other things that churches usually … [Read more...] about Every Step Matters
