Crashed Into Something Good

April 26, 2022 By lisa

If you know me, you know that I'm a wee bit obsessed with visual media -- film and television in particular. Maybe it's because I struggle with visualizing in my mind. I can do it, like when I'm reading a book. But I find myself immensely relieved when I can enjoy a movie based on that book, because I am shown far more than I ever "saw" before. Also, I just love how all of the pieces come together. The words of the story combine with just the right view from the camera plus music and motion, and … [Read more...] about Crashed Into Something Good

It’s About Time

September 17, 2017 By lisa

It's almost embarrassing how long it's been since I've posted on this blog. It's not that I haven't watched many movies, although I've seen fewer than I'd like. Mostly, I've simply found that I didn't have much to say about the movies I have watched--nothing beyond a simple tweet or two. That changed recently, starting this past Mother's Day when my oldest son gave me a copy of Stephen King's 11/22/63. He'd kept the receipt because he knew that it was likely that this book was already a part of … [Read more...] about It’s About Time

“We’re All Storytellers”

March 3, 2014 By lisa

Watching the Oscars last night, I found myself really enjoying not only the production but also the commercials. I think the ads this year were far better than the Super Bowl ads that get so much hype every year. But my favorite moment of pretty much the entire evening came from this simple ad for Google. It highlighted a TED Talk from Pixar writer/director/producer Andrew Stanton, which I should have guessed because I actually recognized his voice. Take a look. [youtube … [Read more...] about “We’re All Storytellers”

Latest Castle Two-Parter: Random Musings

February 28, 2013 By lisa

Yes, I know this blog is about movies, but today I just felt like writing about one of my favorite tv shows, ABC's Castle. I may do this a bit more often, as it's more likely that I'll find time to watch an episode of something rather than a full movie. And hey, the latest two-part story was almost movie-length, so if you're going to be nitpicky with me, at least there's that. [As with anything I write about, spoilers abound, so if you're a Castle fan and haven't seen the "Target/Hunt" … [Read more...] about Latest Castle Two-Parter: Random Musings

Film Annex: Checking Out Micro-pilot AWAKENING

March 24, 2012 By lisa

While perusing Film Annex today, I found an interesting micro-pilot for a potential action/adventure-suspense tv show titled AWAKENING. Check out my micro-review here: http://www.filmannex.com/posts/blog_show_post/awakening-micro-pilot/48276 … [Read more...] about Film Annex: Checking Out Micro-pilot AWAKENING

Coming Back Around Again

October 7, 2011 By lisa

I came back to this blog to try and write about Source Code again, having a refreshed perspective after watching the entire "Life On Mars" TV series (US version -- haven't seen the original yet). It got me thinking about the nature of psychology, time travel, alternative realities, dreams...you know, all that good stuff. Let's face it, a psychiatrist could have a field day with Sam Tyler, from his avoidance of his younger self to his conflicted relationship with his father (and his father), to … [Read more...] about Coming Back Around Again
