Random Acts, founded by actor Misha Collins of Supernatural, is a global nonprofit organization which encourages everyone, everywhere, to do random acts of kindness. They have raised enough money to support the construction of orphanages in Haiti, and are currently working on building a school in Nicaragua. Meanwhile, supporters all over the world donate their time, creative talent, and money to local organizations and individuals right in their own backyards. What is Privilege?
I have been asking myself for a while now what it is about the term "white privilege" that causes such a visceral, negative reaction in me. This term—and others that are similar—get thrown at people like a slap in the face, in the hopes of getting them to wake up and shake themselves out of their own perspective, for the betterment of the common good. There's no actual … [Read more...] about Is It A Movie, or Is It A Message? Or Is It Both?
Just a Little Holiday Something
Perfected Sugar-Free Peppermint Mocha Taking a break from big, heavy topics to bring you a little cup of sugar-free heaven. I'm addicted to Starbucks' peppermint mocha, and I've tried off and on for quite a while to make a suitable sugar-free substitute at home. I'm convinced the last piece of the puzzle was creating a lovely peppermint syrup made with Stevia in the Raw -- I got off Splenda a few months ago, when I started to notice that foods sweetened with actual sugar had started tasting … [Read more...] about Just a Little Holiday Something
