My first big-screen film viewing for 2013 was Tom Hooper's film adaptation of Les Misérables. No, I did not go see this on Christmas Day, much to the chagrin of my husband. As much as I love movies, Christmas with the family is much more important. So, after a couple of weeks of relaxed schedules and quality hibernating, it was off to the movies! [probably spoilers in here somewhere, for those of you who don't know the story of Les Mis -- but why don't you??] I'd like to preface my review by … [Read more...] about The Cinematic Wonder that is Les Misérables
Ramblings and Reviews
A New Era Awaits!
In celebration of surviving the "impending apocalypse", I have decided to kick off this sparkly new era by returning to my blog! Hooray! Actually, this is less of an old blog and more of a newly-remodeled blog. Over the past few years, I've written out my thoughts about various subjects through Blogger.com, MySpace (I know, I know), and now here on my WordPress blog. A few weeks ago I decided to gather all of my old ramblings, cut the ramblings that made the least sense, and compile the rest … [Read more...] about A New Era Awaits!
The Illusionist, Revisited
I spent a good portion of yesterday going through and cleaning up old and forgotten blogs, removing what I no longer wanted to keep, and reposting items I felt were worth keeping. Among the old posts was my review of one of my favorite movies, Christopher Nolan's The Prestige. At the end of that review, I made mention that my next planned viewing was The Illusionist, a film starring Ed Norton, which was also released at around the same time as The Prestige. I don't remember it getting nearly as … [Read more...] about The Illusionist, Revisited
Musings from the Matrix
Another post from a forgotten blog. Last one for today, but I couldn't resist since I just posted today about Cloud Atlas which was also an amazing film by the siblings Wachowski. I was reading a fascinating interpretation of the Matrix movies, specifically Matrix Reloaded (my favorite of the three), which discusses the nature of the creation of the world. We Christians are familiar with the idea that God created a Tree of Knowledge but forbade Adam and Eve to eat its fruit. The question that … [Read more...] about Musings from the Matrix
Say Anything
I was revisiting an old blog today when I found a post from a few years back about John Cusack, and I thought I would repost. Enjoy! I was actually on Black20.com defending Cusack against some folks who had the audacity to suggest that Bill Murray--of all people--was the best actor of our time. Sheesh! Just remember Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, Grosse Point Blank, High Fidelity, and Being John Malkovich, and you'll understand why I love John Cusack so much. He was even in Stand … [Read more...] about Say Anything
Rise of the Intelligent Movies
Okay, it's been a few months since I last stopped by here to write. Anybody who follows me even a little bit knows that this is standard procedure. It's not that I haven't seen more movies worth writing about--far from it. Life just seems to have its own way of taking over your time. Kids go back to school, work picks up, I do stupid things like start writing a novel (well, okay, more like a novella, but whatever), and on and on. This morning during my usual social media rounds I read two … [Read more...] about Rise of the Intelligent Movies
